1001 Uses For Old Bass Strings

Sign in to disble this ad
I find I'm always using old bass strings for various projects around the house. I thought it might be amusing to hear what others have done with these seemingly used up, twisted strands of metal that we can never bring ourselves to just throw away.

Yesterday I used some to hang the yellow jacket traps in my back yard...

i just have them in a huge pile, I wore one as a necklace once. It'll be interesting to see what people do with them.

- You can use the G or C string as a cheese cutter.

I am actually keen to router out a piece of wood in the shape of a bass and use the old strings as a filler , i.e. making a picture of a bass using bass strings.

That's a pretty fun idea, actually. If you ever get it done you have to post pics!

My brother's girlfriend used a string to decorate my desk lamp, she wrapped the lamp with it, looks pretty nice.
I have broken 3-4 low-riders and wanted to take the ending which is quite thin, pass a string through the circles that attach to the bridge and make a necklace just to remember how many strings I've broken.

I believe Ian Curtis from Joy Division found a use for them...

Not one I'd recommend, though.

don't dancers use them to cover their Who Who. That would be the G string.
