is a 12 year old still a prodigy if they have been playing for 6 or more years?

i dont deny that the kid has talent, but i think the word prodigy is thrown around too liberally these days. i feel you should be fairly proficient at an instrument if you have been playing it that long.

How good was he after one year?

EDIT: He's actually been playing for four years. Not that that necessarily changes the topic at hand.

EDIT2: And he doesn't turn 12 until September.

Sounds good to me. Hopefully, he'll continue to improve & won't get burnt out.

I'd say yes. I think any musically gifted child under the age of 15 or 16 could be considered a prodigy.

Kid certainly has better chops on guitar than I'll ever have... Not that that's hard to achieve, but still.
