3 set headliners

does ANYONE go to see a band do 3 sets in a night?

i don't mean friends who are in a band or relatives in a band...have you EVER gone to see a LOCAL band and watch all 3 sets?

i did them for years. no one stays the whole time. it takes a lot to entertain people musically for 3+ hours a nite

is there any REASON to headline?

i LOVE opening up the headliner. can leave whenever you want. get to pick the best songs and hit them hard and early. of course, no one might be there but h3ll, no one might be there at 1:00am for the headliner either.

is there anything worse than having to play till 2am and only the barstaff is being entertained?

Our band a Classic Rock band performing 4 sets per night and we have many of our fans stay till 2 am to rock with us. It depends on I think how much you give to the crowd if they are having a great time then time slips away and before you know it, it is already 2 am. We do on average 3 encores per show which gets us out later than we hope but if we get the node from the house we hit them with a little more. I think the amount of times you play in the same area makes a big difference too if they miss you when you do hit their area they gear up all week for the show. We see the chatter online ( who's going? who's meeting who there?, who needs a ride?) it is pretty cool.

My cover band typically packs the place from about 9:00 until close.

Tomorrow is my last real gig at one of my favorite venues. I think things are going to be crazy as the longtime fans queue up to say farewell..........
