5 string or...

Sign in to disble this ad
My band is kind of a progressive jazz/Metal band. I was wondering and they said this was up to me... I can get a 5 string ( Spector Legend on my mind) or If I wanted I could learn to play cello and make so awesome twist and improvs. I don't know what to do! I love the cello (*always have wanted to learn one) but I love the bass just as much and I don't know which to do. Any of you have your 2 cents?

Well I don't fully understand what your band told you but Cello is going to be very hard to pick up. As in, lots of practice, hours of work, and just dedication. Not trying to turn you off, but it'll take some practice.

Well yeah but I would imagine the transition from four string to five string bass would be easier. Then at least for me when I was studying violin I found that bad technique, bad listening, and just a buttload of other stuff wasn't as forgiven as it was on electric. That and learning where the notes where, how to tune and all that was just much harder. Again not trying to turn you off though also if you do end up getting a Cello try using some distortion XD it sound rather nifty.

Hey, I kinda want to be thrown off in one direction or another eventually, man, so don't worry about it... but I never really took tuning into account but I do play (lined)fretless bass so it may help a bit.
