If you looked at this thread you probably know that these two bands were started by the same guy (Chris Barns). Pretty much everytime you hear of extreme death metal, you will hear discussion about cannibal corpse shortly afterward, but I think 6 Feet Under is the better band. I just bought the COMMANDMENT album and I like everything on it. Just wandering what other people think. |

And personally, I've always prefered George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher's vocals to Barnes'.

| | | | Cannibal Corpse and Six Feet Under are no where near extreme death metal. They're both mallcore and pretty damn terrible.
Even though I don't listen to metal anymore I hated both when I did. Just fast riffs played in drop tunings and basically no structure. |

Now Jazz. That's got no structure. It's just random notes played at random times. |

Here we go again! They're aren't EXTREEEEEMEE enough. THIS IS WHAT I HATE ABOUT METAL!!! The specialists who have to argue that things aren't BR000tal enough.
I can't understand this "mallcore" label, since Cannibal Corpse started YEARS and YEARS before all the bands labeled as such got started. I won't defend Six Feet Under (I'm getting to that), but Cannibal Corpse became popular without the help of radio, trendy music stores, etc. I have nothing but respect for bands that get as popular as they have by word of mouth.
Just fast riffs? No structure? Complete joke.
On topic: Cannibal Corpse by a long shot. I do think Six Feet Under is one of the worst/most generic metal bands I've ever heard. The only reason I like early Cannibal Corpse are the songs, well written death metal, really good musicians in the band, but everything got better when Barnes left. Six Feet Under's cover album is the funniest thing I have ever heard though. The whole thing cracks me up. But their original songs... just fast riffs with no structure. Nah, their just not my bag, with death metal stuff, I like a little progginess, SFU are too 4/4 for me I guess.

Back to OT: Having never heard 6 Feet Under, i'm going to have to ahead and vote Cannibal Corpse. I would like to hear them, though... |

Hell, I'd even consider myself a "metal specialist" but to say Cannibal Corpse is not extreme metal and is mallcore is a very idiotic statement. |
