80s metal songs that are well-known but good.

Not talking Poison and Warrant. Stuff like Ace of Spades and Whiplash. What are some more of that ilk that I seem to be forgetting?

Apparently, we're opening up for an 80s rock cover band at our next show so we've decided to become a cover band for a night & need 5 or 6 songs for an opening set.

many songs from Iron Maiden, what about Manowar, Accept, Judas Priest, ACDC, Ozzy, Motorhead, there are other bands that I personally dont like but many people do and proabably is what you need for a 80's rock covers band: Motley Crue, Poison, Cinderela, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister. Wanna go crazy? DRI, Slayer, Sodom, Venom, Mercyfull Fate...

Whenever we do the Trooper of Warpigs, people come out of the woodwork to rock out.

True story.

I'd be totally psyched if I heard a band pull off

Wake Up Dead - Megadeth
Four Horsemen - Metallica
Caught in a Mosh - Anthrax

That is *the* song that made me want to pick up a bass.

I'd love to do that song.

Yes.

Also...

Scorpions have some great tunes ("Rock You Like A Hurricane" not being one of them IMO). "Big City Nights", "Still Loving You", "Lovedrive", "Blackout" are all great.

Def Leppard may be stretching some people's definition of "metal" but you can't go wrong with "Photograph" or "Rock of Ages".

I've always had a guilty soft spot for Quiet Riot "Cum on Feel the Noize".

My friend's band does Whitesnake "Still of the Night" and it always kills. Always.

Cinderella "Shake Me" and "Gypsy Road" are always hits, and "Don't Know What You've Got" is a good slow one.

Great White "Rock Me"

I would stay away from Motley Crue and Poison. There are plenty of bands out there covering those tunes already. Believe it or not some folks in these parts even call Bon Jovi "metal" but I think we all know better...

For less strenous vox, try some early Maiden. Not trying to diss Di'anno, but his range isn't that wide.

Try "Drifter", "Charlotte the Harlot", "Prodigal Son", "Another Life", "Prowler" and "Purgatory".
