About to get the ER15 earplugs - need tips

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I am just about to bite the bullet and get the Elacin ER15 made.
Just need to get some advice as for the appearance.
Because I have very short hair, I need the plugs to be as inconspicuous as possible

I am debating transparent vs. pinkish tint and matt vs. gloss surface.

I am concerned if that this pinkish would look like some medicinal hearing aid stuff.

What would be the most discrete? (for me)

Also I read something about chewing motion of jaws during the molding procedure - is it good or not to do so?
Thank you.

I have professional experience with producing custom ear plugs and making ear impressions.

I always advise to stay away from transparent materials if possible. They quickly start to turn yellow from the oils in your skin. Pink tinted is decent if the material you like only comes in translucent tones. Otherwise, an opaque matte flesh tone should almost disappear. The specialist making the impressions for you should be able to lay out options.

Personally, I figured the plugs would never be completely discreet, so for my personal pair I got a red/black swirl with red interchangeable filters and a cord. They're stylish, and if there's a little wax on the tips when I pull em out, it's hard to see.

As for impressions, everybody has their own technique depending on the type of impression material they use. Usually, I have them keep their jaw comfortably closed (not clenched) and have them open their jaw wide towards the end of the process. The amount of displacement that can occur in the ear canal varies widely from person to person. The specialist should get a good look in your ears first thing, and should check for displacement.

And, of course, make sure you go to someone reputable, who is fully licensed in your state. It's rare, but thing can go wrong while making an impression.

Thanks, great advice from the source!
I will use a reputable company which then sends the imprints for modeling to German laboratory.
I will probably get pinkish or flesh matte with 15 dB filters and if the attenuation is too much, I will order 9dB filters as well.

I got customs made, only they are Emtech. Even though they offer custom colors, the part that goes in your ear is completely white, so the wax coloration thing applies no matter what I would choose. I was told by the audiologist that the transparent is the most discrete. Nobody has ever noticed when I wear them on stage.
