So, what is your favourite music style and who is your favourite bassist in that style? |

Instead I use the funky style, among other influences, to play anything from standard rock to metal. My current band is in-your-face hardcore punk. I'm not sure about favourite bassist. I enjoy listening to Wooten and Pastorious, but nobody in the genre particularly stands out for me...

I play just about everything though, and like most "styles" of music other then polka, fusion and modern country... |

I try and listen to as much as possible from as many people as possible! you never know when something you picked up from jazz is going to help you in metal, or when something you picked up in pop will help you in folk!

Major style influnces Tye Zamora(AAF), Mike Todd(Coheed), Ryan Martini(Mudvayne), and Ken Charmin(Nonpoint). I know most of these guys dont seem to have the name recognition around like a John Myung or Justin Chancellor but if you listen to their music, you will hear some pretty cool stuff and listening to these bands has a pretty sizeable impact on my style, but its more a collection of everything I've ever heard as it is for everyone.(recalling the who has nobody as an influence thread, lmao at that).

Other than that, I listen to classic rock, some funky stuff, ska, coheed, protest the hero, etc. Just whatever inspires me musically
So my biggest influences have been Geddy Lee, Marcus Miller, and Steve Harris, I suppose. If you listen really closely maybe you could pick out some of those influences at times, and maybe some jaco, but for the most part I have my own style.

I started out listening to John Paul Jones and moved on to Prog, spending time with Eddie Jackson, John Myung, Geddy and Chris Squire. Course, Pearl Jam was just out at the time and Jeff Ament was something new... Finding Phish lead me to Mike Gordon and Primus was always in the CD changer (do people still have these?)... Then I got in a blues band. Been though Jaco, Victor and Miller and now 16 years later, Them Crooked Vultures came out and I am once again hooked on John Paul Jones.

That's because when he was asked if he considered his music to be jazz, replied "There are only two kinds of music; music that sounds good and whatever you want to call that other stuff." "Styles" are limiting and ultimately non-descriptive. Besides, the best stuff is the music that lives across the borders of general styles. It's artists, not "genre" that hits me.
I love country music, but despise contemporary country pop. But I like Trisha Yearwood while I despise Jennifer Nettles. Led Zepplin is highly over-rated, while Jeff Beck is criminally under-rated. Skynyrd is awful but the original ABB are excellent. SRV is good, but not as good as so many guitarists seem to think while they disparage his more talented older brother Jimmy Lee.

Let's say Jack Bruce, Duck Dunn, Bob Bogle (Ventures), Bob Babbitt (Funk Bros.) and don't forget John Lodge of the Moody Blues.

Favorite bassist(s) in that genre (have a "departed" and "still with us" pair of answers) is Paul Chambers in the departed category and Avishai Cohen in the "still with us" category.
My main "playin' music" is Blues. And there I pretty much have to go with Duck Dunn.
