About the "you now you're a bass player when" thread...

Read all 30+ pages of it.

Now I'm not a bass player and I'm not much of a guitarist either. But I would like some explanations..

What is GAS?

Why does it bother so much people that white stripes's Seven nation army is played on a guitar with octave down? Can't you still play it on a bass?

I totally understand the thing about the school of rock. Have not seen themovie myself but I definitely think that music could use more bass solo breaks.

I also have a thing for nice woods. My guitar top is made of figured maple and I regret getting it with a blue varnish. Next instrument will be in natural wood tones.

Why so many comments about bassists being "better" than other members of the band? Is it some kind of evolutionary thing where people with more theory knowledge naturally gravitate toward the bass?

No matter how you look at it. Playing bass as a beginner is easier than playing guitar. But it probably takes a lot more skill to make a bass solo sound great that it takes for a guitar.

Gear Acquisition Syndrome - Wanting more stuff than your wallet can afford.

Yes.

+1

Most of them are just joking. The general idea is that drummers are idiots, guitarists are selfish, and bassists are either

a. Smart and cool or
b. Just as dumb as the drummer.

Yes. I know it hurts, but it is easier to pick up a bass and play root notes than it is to pick up a guitar. Both are different animals, but you have to face the facts. That doesn't mean you can't make the bass a challenge.

-Gear aquisition Syndrome

-People get uppity over stupid stuff

-Bass solos aren't mainstream, therefore they don't belong in a hollywood rock movie

-Tone woods can be nice

-Bassists are often full of themselves

-I agree

You know, if this is about that thread, you may want to post it in that thread...

I was afraid some people would get bothered because there was nothing funny about my questions.

At least now I know what GAS is. If that's all it takes then I'm already a bass player, even before owning my first bass.

I have made a thread about guitarists, and I wouldn't consider all the guitarists selfish... There are selfish guitarists, and there are gifted guitarists. Fortuantely, I've always played with the latter category.

Wel i dont consider all guitarists selfish but from all the guitarists i know personally, they all consider themselves the lead of the band just because there part is heard most and they get the most solos
