So...reading a post in which a TBer tossed the words 'MIM', 'MIJ', J-Bass, and P-bass into a post aimed at a newcomer to TB, I realized how many acronyms we use in these forums, and how confusing and intimidating it can be to newcomers, and with that in mind, I decided that we should put together a list of acronyms for various bass gear, brand names, models, eras, album names, and gastrointestinal disorders.
That way a newcomer could run into the phrase "I run my pre-CBS '57 P into a 70's SVT with two 810s" and decode it merely by looking at one thread instead of doing a new search on a three or two-letter word every twenty seconds. So, I'll kick it off with a few.
MIA: Made In America
MIJ: Made In Japan
MIM: Made In Mexico
CBS: As in the television network "Columbia Broadcasting System"
SVT: Super Valve Technology, a line of Ampeg amplifiers.
P-Bass (or just 'P'): Precision Bass
J-bass/'J': Jazz Bass
It's late, so I'll leave the rest of this up to others. And if this thread has already been done before, it will sort itself out. Woohoo! |
