Ad posting help?

Sign in to disble this ad
I was looking through some of the stickies (and some of Stumbo's helpful posts) but I didn't see anything really going over what to put in an ad. I've been having a bit of trouble with ads recently, with both buying/selling gear and musicians wanted. What I'd like to find out is:

-When posting a for sale ad, what's important to note? What information should I put in it first, what should be left for when the deal starts to form?
-If I'm answering a for sale ad, what should I ask about? Which way is the best to respond from multiple? Phone call, text, email?
-In the sale ads, how should I go about testing the gear, or letting the buyer test it? Where is a good place to meet for the sale?
-If I'm looking for musicians, what would I want to look for in them? Would I be more interested in different areas if I'm just looking for people to jam with instead of a more serious gig?
-When I respond to a bassist (or guitarist, drummer, etc) want ad, what information should I include? Do I need sample tracks?
-For all of these, how long is too long? Too short? What kind of tone is best to go with? Formal, casual, somewhere in between?
Now, I've seen some answers in a few places, and I already have a bit of an idea of what works; however, it would still help to have it all in one place. Thank you for reading through all of this.
