hey does anyone know what guitar Belew plays on his eyes wide open tour.. looks like a strat but I don't think it is.. the one which he had sprayed with lots of paint and looks fantastic?

Looks like a strat to me. Modified, mind you, with a sustainer pickup at the neck position and an internal GK pickup and a nasty paint accident.

There was that beat up strat that he used early on, on the first Crimson albums and on the cover of "Lone Rhino". He also used to use an old Fender Mustang. Lately, it appears that he's playing Parker Fly guitars.

Me too in fact. But I'm sure I don't like the paint on his guitar though.

Last I saw him he was playing his Parker Fly- He really needs a hair cut. His new look just is not cutting it to me. Brilliant guitar work as always.

I don't like the new guitar he uses.. the old fender is sex..in my opinion..but there's something about Belew.. that Fripp doesn't have..Fripp technically more gifted yes, but he doesn't make me want to play guitar.. just depresses me that I'd never be anything near his level.

but Belew has something.. he has real groove with his instrument, regardless of whether you like his tone .. his style of just awesome.
he is the only guy in Crimson who actually has funk on stage.. except maybe Levin when he's with them

I have witnessed a large part of Belew's career.

I first saw him with his band Da Da in Cleveland. It was at the agora and he was opening for someone, who I fail to remember.

Next I saw him with Zappa several times, Steve Vai on guitar, Bozio on drums, then with David Bowie. I missed him with the Talking Heads stint though.

After that it was King Crimson a couple of times, then with The Bears most recently.

He always has been stellar and has never disappointed.

I like Adrian because he's not ashamed for his love of pop stuff a la Beatles, ELO, Nilsson, etc. I think "Big Blue Sun" is my fave track of his.

He didn't play in the same era as Vai with FZ.
He played late '70 with Frank , Vai was more top '80.....

Right. I saw Belew with Zappa in October 1977, right about the time Steve Vai was a senior in some Long Island high school. By the time Belew had moved on to Bowie's band (1979) Vai was still a student at Berklee College in Boston.

he's just so unique..his style is amazing.. again as I said.. I'd never put him as one of the very best guitarists ever.. but he's the only one that makes me want to go out and buy a squier strat and play forever!

he just has that effect on me.. not too sure about other people
