Advice on Band Name

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm in a variety cover band that plays Motown, classic rock, blues, and jazz with a country song here and there. The band leader/lead vocalist/keys player is a female and originally came to us with band name Teresa Peterson and the Boys. The rest of us were not wild about the name and so we did some brainstorming and came up with a new name: Teresa Peterson and Soul Education. The rest of the band really likes the new name but Teresa isn't crazy about it. She pretty much has control of everything else that goes on with the band and we feel as the backing band it should be up to us what we want to be called. So I'm curious what all of you think and which name you like better.

Thanks!

We don't need help naming the band. I was just asking to see which one most of you guys prefer.

neither.

There is no "heat" in that name.

Bands that are "Someone's Name and the..." went out some time in the 80s I think.

Well our band plays mostly 60's and 70's music so I'm not too worried about being trendy.

Elvis Costello and the Attractions/Imposters
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

2 great bands...with "and the" so I think its ok.

this poll pretty much told me what I wanted to hear.

thanks anyone who voted.

Hi MB,
Just a question, if you get a female backup singer or two in 6 months, will they like being "Boys"?
Of the two, I'll vote TP and the Soul Education.

I played in a female fronted Motown, classic rock, blues, etc. band.
Based on "she pretty much has control of everything else...", it sounds even more familiar. Our band's ego difficulties started with the first gig and grew exponentially. My apologies if Teresa's your best friend but I hope you guys don't discover that she really wanted to name the band Teresa Peterson and the Teresa Peterson Band featuring Teresa Peterson.

We've had several gigs already and things have been working out great. Teresa is a great singer and a really good person , she needed a band and we were happy to be part of it. I think we have a good future regardless of the name...but we shall see.

Glad to hear it's working well. It's great when it comes together.
Happy gigging!
