Question Advice for a new bassist?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi im both a new bass player (about 3 weeks) and a new member to this forum and i was wondering if anybody could hyelp me with a couple of things.

Any help at all at doing slap and pop, i cant for the life of me figure it out.

Advice for playing in a 3 person metal band, Kind of Children of Bodemish, and what i would need to know to be a good bassist.

Suggestions on a new amp, something med range that wont crackle when i turn it all the way up.

Thank you if you could help and keep on rocking

First off, welcome to the fold.

I don't really know anything about slap technique so I'm not gonna touch that one.

As for a beginner player in a metal band, that I can help with. Start out with just the root note of the chords your guitarist plays and follow along with that. When you start getting that going then start throwing some other fills in. That's why they call it practice so you can try new things out and not worry about falling flat on your face.

Amps are another story. I've found that if you want something that you and your band mates can hear during said practice, you should go with 2-3x the wattage that they have. (ex. guitar has 50W amp, bass should have 100W) Since it takes more power to drive the speaker for lower notes. I would start out looking for something in a combo amp. They're easy to use and carry around and usually don't take up too much space.

I would call your attention to the "Amps", "Technique" and "General Instruction" sections of the TB forum. Lots of info in the stickied threads at the top of the pages.

Good luck and welcome.
