Saw Chimaira and Killswitch Engage. What a huge show. Just tons of energy.
He Is Legend was also supposed to play (never heard them) but were stopped at the border.
DragonForce also played and for the entire time I was either staring in disbelief or laughing - I mean, W T F??? Even in the 80's they would be cheesy. The 12year olds in the audience seemed to like them (I guess it seems new to them since they weren't even born when this type of metal came around the first time). No 80's cliche was left untouched: spandex, permed hair, drum riser kicks/jumps, updraft fan to blow hair during solos, sweep-pick wankery, the keyboard player even pulled out one of those "I wanna be a guitar player" keyboards. Hilarious. Am I missing something?
Luckily KSE took the stage and restored my faith in modern metal.

I think they have a great sense of humor about themselves, they know they're cheesy and they are having fun with it. they're all definately talented. they're funny, hah. Have you seen the video for their tune "Operation: Ground and Pound"? I think that's what it's called.. YouTube it when you get the chance if you haven't. It shows the synth-player with a key-tar, and the two guitarists have a Guitar Hero-esque solo battle... the ridiculousness of it all is amazing.
I saw KSE a few years back, Taste of Tour, with MyChem and I think The Used headlining? Fun show, I like KSE in a "guilty-pleasure" sense. They were the highlight of the show for me, just because they're more metal than the other guys.
All this talk makes me want to go to a metal show.. time to check my favorite bands for tour dates! |

i saw Killswitch in toronto on that same tour.
the downer part was that they went from playing in a small venue to a much bigger one to sell more tickets, then for some reason moved back down to the smaller one. :S
It was the second time I'd seen KSE and both times they were missing a band member. The first time Howard had blown his voice, and the second Adam was having surgery.
And they rocked that show, i dont think any other band can amount to them for me

just an FYI, if you haven't seen any of the Dragonforce Music video's, they don't take themselves very seriously, they are just out to have fun and joke at their own expense.
hell, on one of the songs their guitarists have dueling solo's... on the video it shows them soloing on a video game, like Guitar Hero and laughing about it... in the middle of the solo it goes to a green screen with the Singer sipping coffee and shrugging at the camera.
So dont mind Dragonforce, they are jokesters, which is why I love 'em... but damn i cant listen to more than like 3 songs without wanting to turn it off !!!
Killswitch is okay... I like them but, I don't see why everybody love's them, but im sure thats the case for lots of people with lots of musicians.
Chimera is great, im a big Chimera fan... they really get the crowd pumped up.

| Ya beat me to it !!!
Dragonforce is funny, thats why they are tolerable, if they were all like Yngwie Malmsteen... ugh.

That's why they aren't as popular in the Northeast anymore since Jesse left. Hell i even heard more than 1 DJ on sirius say how lame they are in person that they are just in it for the money now and not making music.
and as far as Dragonforce it's wankery and entertainment at their finest and they treat their fans great, their interviews are hilarious and you wait and see Herman become a major player in the music world. |
