Al Jarreau - charts and matters arising

I was listening to the radio this morning before going to work and the DJ mentioned that it was Al Jarreau's birthday - he'd obviously been on the wikepdia entry - he mentioned winning the Grammys in 3 different categories, the Star on the walk of fame .. and then he played "Boogie Down".
I was movin' and a groovin' to it in the shower and got to recalling the time that a band I was in backed a singer who opened her show with it. I remembered we were presented with her charts at the afternoon rehearsal - we had no idea what she was planning to sing before this - and I'm pretty sure we sight read it with no screw ups (much to her surprise - not us, we were pretty tight at the time) - maybe went over a couple of spots for the brass - but we nailed it, and the rest of her set, that evening.
I was musing on the guys on this site who seem to think using charts, reading music etc. is wrong and what a perfect example of how and why proper charts are the way forward..and what a great post I would compose on the subject ..
... and the the record ended and the DJ said, yes it's Al Jarreau's Birthday today, he's 70.
SEVENTY!!!!
Where did all those years go? (and what did I open the fridge for.... ?).
