Hi.
^^ Exellent read, thanks.
OP. Like said it depends of countless things, just how much anyone profits from anything really. Not just in music bussiness. And that's just exactly what it is a
bussiness.
For a record/publishing company, there's at least 10 total failures (OK, one hit wonders

) to 1 success. They need to make the money, otherwise the owners have their heads in a platter.
Rock, or POP for that matter, -musicians aren't the most reliable bunch of people after all. On top of that, they're sometimes quite "artistic" too, meaning that they have no idea what so ever how the real world works, or how much responsibility comes with the work. A goldmine today can turn into a landfill tomorrow if the worst comes to worst.
I may not remember this word for word, but a frontman of a quite successfull Finnish hard rock band was once asked which brings more money to the band, touring or selling records? He said something along the lines of: "We
have to tour in order to pay for the recording costs, and we
have to sell records in order to be able to tour.
If anyone feels that their cut seems too small, produce and record Your own album.
Cutting the middlemen will increase
Your profit. If all goes well that is

.

Sam
