To all TalkBass euphonium/baritone players

Well, I've taken up the baritone again (which is to say, I joined band at school again). Right now I'm in marching season, but I'm starting to think that, hey! Maybe I should get a new baritone or euphonium.

So can anyone point me in the right direction of a good horn that isn't horribly expensive? Really, I'm looking for a four-valve. Right now I'm playing on a Jupiter marching horn (belongs to the school), and at home I have a student model.

Honestly, I'd love a double-bell euphonium, but I don't think that's gonna happen. So is there any website I can go to to get more information? Or is it just "Go to your local music store and look there"?

Thanks in advance.

Good for you. I played sousaphone/tuba/euphonium in high school band. Haven't touched one in maybe 15 years but I'm still a believer. I have very fond memories of the '89 Tuba Christmas at Rockefeller Plaza in NYC. Messed around with the trombone for a couple months some years back.

Have you tried placing a wanted ad on your local Craigslist? Or how about contacting the local school district or college to see if they have any dusty ones taking up space? Or maybe asking a place that specializes in brass instrument repair?

Yeah. Tuba Christmas is always fun. I went last year, and my high school had like 25 people there, 24 of which were in band (I was the odd guy out).

Anyway, I havn't really thought about Craigslist. I might try that, but I'm not totally sure what it is that I want, although I think I'd like a 3+1 set up (my baritone teacher when I was in seventh grade had a Yamaha like that). But yeah, I'll probably check at school, maybe UNF, and the music store I bought my first horn from. Thanks for the advice.

Hi,

I played Yamahas throughout high school and they were all very nice and smooth. It's been a while, but I remember having a good impression about them.
