For me, Wilton Felder's brilliant part in Jackson Five's, "I Want You Back".. hands down.

What's yours?

Spacehog - "In the Meantime"

You can hate if you wanna but people that don't even know bassists exist 99% of the time recognize that part.

Same as the OP -- Jackson 5's "I Want You Back", has been my favorite since even before I took up the bass.

I love that line. Lots of fun to play, too!

You know that guy was a sax player who "also" played bass. Just not fair..

So many, but I guess it would have to be Geddy Lee's playing in the song "Prime Mover".

The first ones that come to my mind:

- Paul McCartney's bass break in "Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me and My Monkey".

- The "funky" section of Jaco Pastorius' "Come On, Come Over".

- The 7/8 bass riff from Rush's "Tom Sawyer".

I like the cool slap fills in Rose Royce's "Car Wash".

+1 on the Jaco song mentioned above.

A fast bass line that comes to my mind that always blows me away when I hear it is he bass part about 5˝ minutes into the jazz/fusion song "Froth" on Steve Lukather's second solo album (also released as a Los Lobotomy's album). John Pena is playing a 32nd notes pattern (in about 80bpm) on his fretless that suits that part of the song perfectly. By the way, the whole album is worth checking out. Although it's a guitarist's solo record...

Any of a half dozen or so of Geddy's lines... Immediately coming to mind would be Driven, Camera Eye, Hemispheres (cheating, I know)... Maybe a doxen is more like it...
