OK so i went to check out my buddys Jazz band yesterday, he is the lead guitarest and very talented! This is a new project for him and asked for my constructive critsisum. Im a rock pass player for the past 25 years still plaaying with the same guys from highschool. We are a 3 piece with a great stage show and an awsome singer, anyways when watching them i was a noticing that there bass player who was very good, no vocals dutys was center stage and taking 90% off the glory. While i feel musicly the lead gutarest in the back round next to the drummer should have been featured with all the riffs and leads he plays. I guess my question is dont most jazz guys kind of jam with the drummer and try to keep things groovy and play really tight together? That seemed to mee where the band was lacking kind of sloppy and not jiving?

I don't think the genre has anything to do with it. We ALL need to work together and be grooving. But, yeah, why was the guitar player in the background?

Is the bassist the band leader?
What difference does it make anyway? Somebody has to be in front. Why do we assume it has to be the guitar everytime?
