American Musical Supply?? Good Online Company??

I'm getting the best price from American Musical Supply for a Bass Amp. Has anyone had any experience wit them? I found a few minor complaints but nothing too serious reported. Thanks for any feedback, Gerry

They were the first to offer a 3pay plan w/o interest.
I purchased a lot from them in the past and they were always great.

They're actually pretty good as warehouse sellers go. The only issue I have with them is that they're located in NJ so I get nailed with tax in addition to shipping.

I ordered my Mackie Onyx 24*4 Buss Console from them with the payment plan a couple of years ago. No complaints. I've made several smaller subsequent purchases also with no problems. Hope your experience is as good.

AMS:
I haven't used it but I've known people that have with good results. They do offer a different selection of brands than the other major players in this market.

MF:
I've used it and it's ok. MF is owned by GC, and since I have a long time buddy in middle management at GC (former regional manager that went back to the floor for a better family life), you could say that I cheat. I don't use MF except for window shopping but... well you'll see my favorite a little later on.

Music 123:
A little "low-rent" but they're up front about military discounts which is nice.

Sweetwater:
GREAT! Sweetwater is by far my favorite music catalog store.

My first order from them was for a kick amp and beater guitar to keep me entertained while on deployment. The toys arrived 11 days later, while we were out bobbing around the ocean. 11 days!

Unique to Sweetwater is that you get assigned your own sales rep to handle your questions/transactions. This means you don't have to explain yourself every single time you call. I had explained my gear plans and my rep called me a few months later to tell me to not buy one of the items (software) yet as its about to drop in price by several hundred dollars due to a new version coming out. I've never had a sales guy call me to NOT sell me something.

Sweetwater carries the basics and entry level stuff that MF has but they also carry the 100k+ consoles used by Lucasfilm, so they carry the truly pro level gear that will make your head spin.

Well in either case I hope this helps.

Aren't AMS, M123, WW&BW, and MF all owned by GC?

WWBW and M123 are the same as far as I know but I believe separate from MF and GC, AMS is owned by the same people who run Zzounds, though I much prefer Zzounds to AMS. The prices are nearly identical but Zzounds does no interest 4-payments, they've always bent over backwards to help me out and the one or two times I've had to reschedule a payment by a day or two they've done so and waived the normal change fee. I've had good experiences with Sweetwater as well but I think they're geared more towards people who spend a bit higher than I do. (I spend about $800-$1000 annually on musical equipment and most of that goes to Zzounds or used gear.

Remember that with MF you may get a cheaper total cost as you don't pay shipping or tax

AMS has a very good reputation.

I have made purchases and returned items to Musician's Friend and Music 123 and had good luck with them.

Sweetwater is excellent to deal with as is

AMS seems fine to me. I have purchased from them several times and would be happy to buy from them again.
