Amp tech rates?

Is $80 an hour plus materials the average rate for a decent amp tech? I took one of my amps in to get fixed for the first time and that was the posted rate.

I pay about 20 bucks or less per hour. That usually includes parts unless its something big like a transformer or tube. Pots and caps go on their pockets. Then again you get what you pay for. There aren't any decent techs around here. I was quoted from several guys in FL when I was considering shipping my b15 last month for a clean bill of health and was quoted 65 and 70 dollars for work from two techs that we're recommended on this forum to me.

Like real estate, it's all about Location Location Location. Where are you? If you're in a major metropolis, $80/hour is a pretty fair rate. If you're in Rumptickler, ID that's a bit steep.

Edit: just saw that you're in Spokane WA. $80/hour is probably typical. If the guy's any good you're not getting ripped off.

Yeah, I've never heard anything about him, but the service has been slow. It will be at least two weeks when I get back from since I brought it in.
