Amplifying an acoustic guitar

My dad is looking to electrify his acoustic guitar (I think he just wants to use my pedals).

But what is the best way to go about this? Soundhole pickup? Piezo? Internal mic? He also wants an onboard preamp.

I like none of this to affect the unplugged sound aswell.

If anyone has any experience with this or could name some products worth looking into it would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Sam.

Get him to buy a guitar with an onboard system, personally I can't stand trying to makeshift one. Martins are the best for studio flat sound, Taylors are the best for live applications.
