Amy Winehouse on The Grammies

Sign in to disble this ad
That had to be one of the most pityful performances I have ever witnessed on the Grammy Awards.

It was so obvious that she was reading her own lyrics off a video teleprompter.

It's pretty bad when you're so drugged out you can't even remember the lyrics to the song you wrote.

Add: It also is pathetic when the music industry is in such sad shape that someone like her can win 4 awards including album of the year.

I thought she was great. I was wondering if that bass sound was really coming from that Hofner. They didn't show enough of the bass man for me to scope out the fingering, which I always do watching a performance on TV. I didn't think a Hofner could sound that clean.

She isn't the only person reading lyrics. It wasn't that bad....remember it's 330-4 in the morning there when she sang...be thankful she didn't cuss.

Surely, if you knew you were going to be performing live on the Grammies at 4:00 in the morning, you'd prepare and get some extra rest before your performance.

Besides, Cuba Gooding Jr. seemed to be wide awake for the intro to her performance.

I kept expecting to see her do a Heroin nod off during that performance.

Her band may have sounded pretty good, but her back-up singer sucked.

She didn't win album of the year, she won record of the year. The Album of the Year went to the great Herbie Hancock, thank goodness. River:The Joni Letters is an amazing album. I highly recommend it.

I stand corrected on the Record Of The Year. And, no I don't think Amy Winehouse deserves that award either.

And, Herbie Hancock deserves Album Of The Year. In my opinion Mr Hancock is one of the greatest musicians alive today.

She Sucked!
It would have been even worse if she didn't have those backup singers adding a little life to the performance with their dancing.

I think the best sounding bass award goes to the Hofner, behind the out-to-lunch English girl. I knew they can sit up nicely in the mix and this one sure shows it. Makes me yearn for the '65 club I'm waiting for from my repair guy. And kudos to Herbie who deserves every award they can think of.

Album of they year should be renamed "Musical Entertainer of the year" which should NEVER be confused with "Musician of the year"!!!

In a world full of awards shows put on by industries patting themselves on the back, the Grammies stand out as "worst among the worst."

Since when did lip syncing your material on a "live" broadcast become acceptable?

Also, I'm still mad that they gave Best Metal Album to Jethro Tull over Metallica (back when Metallica didn't suck, that is.)

That Hofner was slammin' but that SR5 behind Tina Turner and Beyonce was good too. I also noticed a Sadowsky during the Gospel sequence and a Thunderbird (!) behind Alicia Keys.

I thought it was a great perfomance, personally. I've been a fan of hers since before she got recognized in the States, and I think that tonight's gig almost epitomized what she does. I'm sure it would've been rockin' live and in person. She's just got such a great bohemian-esque style and stage presence that's awesome; and, seriously, I'm in love with that 60s sound. I don't care if she was lit up on crack, smack, or whatever, she communicated a good musical performance to me.

Also, that violin bass sounded pretty good; I was impressed.

Finally, congrats to Herbie. When they called his name, I literally jumped up and smiled. We might disagree on Amy Winehouse, but I think it's fair to say that everybody can appreciate Herbie Hancock.

A T-bird...

That guy blows my mind. I didn't see Keys on the Grammys, but I've noticed that thunderbird before AND the fact that he uses a pick.

Next jazz gig I play, I'm bringing a Warwick Vampire.

No disrespect to Tina or anyone else on stage during that performance......but my eyes couldn't get past Beyonces legs Sorry, just bein' honest here.

I still don't understand the whole Amy Whinehouse winning grammys deal. I honestly can't stand her myself. Nothing to do with her drug issues and all. I just don't like her singin'...

I think Alicia Keys is great. Didn't notice her bassist tonight. But when she performed on the super bowl, her bassist was playin a thunderbird then.
