Can someone tell me what bass was used on Anita Bakers Fairy tales song?? Its a Killer sounding bass.
I am aware that Natan East played on some of her songs as well as Freddie Washington.

I'm pretty sure it's Nathan East.

Hmmm.....not sure what Nathan played back then but I want to say it was a Yamaha. I think Freddie played a Smith. Not sure though.

It's Nathan. I'm fairly certain he's playing a Yamaha, probably his signature model. He is also killing on "Lonely"!!!

I know its Natan,,But the tone sounds like a Smith and he does appear on Smith;s page of endorsers.I cant see a Yamaha with that kind of tone and that album came out in 1990 and was recorded perhaps in 89.
Does anyone know for sure????

Could have been a Smith but Nathan's been playing Yamaha's since the 80's.

I just remembered that I had the pleasure of being invited as a very interested observer to a studio session run by the late, great arranger Gene Page and Nathan was there. He was replacing the bass parts on some tracks-and he was playing a Fodera 5-string! This was around 1985-87. I don't remember the exact tone of that bass-but it sounded very nice in Nathan's very capable hands! Whether he played that bass on the Anita Baker Compositions CD is unknown to me.
