Found this band looking for a singer on Craigslist. Nice attitude!

Don't read if you are offended by profane language!

That doesn't surprise me at all. If you've been around here long enough, you are sure to remember my embarassing story on this subject.

In case you haven't, I'll post it again. Because you can live without dignity. I've done experiments:

Surely by now everyone has read my story about how a band that I had owned albums from all the way back in high school was looking for a new bass player.

I was in a music store, playing the bass that I had just made a payment on, and this 'old guy*' came up and started asking me "Can you play this song?" "Can you play this other song?" "Can you sing while you play?" "Can you do that one in E in stead of G?" etc...

Next thing he comes back and gives me a card with directions on it. The directions go to a nearly-local(In Dallas, I was in Ft Worth.) arena. I go there, all exited at the idea of the audition. I see an assortment of guys waiting in a line with a gigbag on their shoulder. I go get in the line. Shortly afterward, a guy tells me he is 'part of the management team' (TEAM??? They had a management TEAM?!?!?!?) and that he is sure I'm a monster player, or I wouldn't have been invited down. But they were looking for a look. And I didn't have it. So I could go.

That's right, people. I'm too ugly for rock and roll.

Now I wouldn't have been so insulted if they had let me play and said no. And I wouldn't have been quite so insulted if the band that dissed me for not looking 'rock' enough had been a bunch of handsome girl-getting machines.

But it was Foghat.

Yes. THAT Foghat.

Yes. I was too ugly to be allowed to audition for Foghat.

That's a self-image killer if there ever was one.

*The 'old guy' was about my current age. This was in late 1988 or early 1989.
