Another Great Radio Controversy...

Ok, so Bell Global Media just bought City TV, what good can come of that?

First of all City is/was probably one of the greatest networks ever, with a cool modern approach to programming.

Now, the corporation that owns Chum FM / Q 107 (I think) / MTV / Muchmusic and many other extremely powerhouse industry medias are the same ones who are trying to shove Idol after Idol down our throats.

So what do you think are we about to be plagued with them promoting their own artists (idols) for the almighty dollar, and subjecting us to a new industry of puppets ddoing revamps?

Post your thoughts...

Thank God for Sirius, Sat TV, File Sharing and my album collection.

Yes, that merger truly sucks.

Much Music sometimes plays music I like. Now that they're bought they will never play music I like.

We already are. Radio *sucks*, for the most part.

One of my favorite local stations, which played a variety of music by mainly-Texas artists, are now playing almost nothing but adult-contemporary pop dreck.

Move over, blues musicians and Ray Wylie Hubbard and Alejandro Escovedo...We're replacing you with Dave Matthews and that "Black Horse & The Cherry Tree" chick, and lots of breathy, syrupy songwriters. YAWWWWNNNN!!!

Also, there seem to be more pop stations on the Central Texas radio dial than anything else these days. That includes the country stations, which play more Faith Hill-Shania Twain-Kenny Chesney pop songs than they do anything that resembles real country.

The classic rock station is now a Christian adult-contemporary station, and the rock station is more classic rock, now. Thank God for 101X...they, at least, still play good stuff. But that's changing, too.

The deal still has to be cleared by the CRTC, though I imagine they'll let it go through with some restrictions.

Q107 is owned by Corus Entertainment not CHUM or Bell GM.

The things that suck is the people that are going to lose their jobs, and yet another news voice is going to eventually be shut off. I doubt BGM would really screw up CHUM's CityTV properties though as they're popular, and quite profitable.

Thank God when I go to TO, at least the Q is still there, I wasn't sure if they were part of the merger, but they may get swallowed up in the future (?)

You don't think BGM will mess with City?
Not sure about that, although CTV has got a bit better image than 5-10 years ago.

I guess we'll soon find out, but be prepared for the attack of the "Karaoke Death Squad" <------ Quote: Rolling Stone Mag.

Don't get me wrong, I think the show is ok, actually I usually stop watching as soon as they start getting good. I love the ones who suck but think they're good, and none of the Idols so far, have impressed me on a consistent basis yet.

I believe there is tons of talent there, but I have been noticing, the judges comments lately, there is a LOT of complimenting going on, and tuning issues, presence issues, and dorkiness overlooked and unmentioned, I really think it's turning into a sham.

Thank God Q107 is safe. I think that might be the only good station out there.

MuchMusic started to suck about six or seven years ago, so I'm sure this merger won't change their present course.
