I just watched their new DVD about their Album Rio, its amazing, if you're a fan of their work, or of watching Rock Documentaries, I highly recommend watching it.

i still listen to duran duran - they rocked, imo.

for future reference, anything music related but not specifically bass related, like this topic, should go in misc, not OT. i'll move it there for you .

Hated them then, diggin' them now. I think I subconsciously appreciated the bass lines back in the day, though.

I would've never admitted it back in the day, but I liked them...I even named my daughter Rio.

They are incredible. John Taylor is a great unsung bassist. Just listen to the tone and groove on tracks like Rio

I've always like their music, and John Taylor has always been one of the favorite bassists on the list.

But his bass tone on The Power Station 'Some like it Hot' (Robert Palmer on vocals) is about what sound is in my head for bass tone.

John Taylor - proved it was possible to be a tasteful, toneful and generally great bass player...and be incredibly good looking at the same time. He paved the way for guys like me!

Despite Taylor's skills, I've never been able to stand them. Overproduced tripe, IMO--especially compared to the great American punk/indie rock coming out at that time. "The reflex is a lonely child"? Ugh, kill me.

Duran Duran -- "the band so good they had to name them twice."

I liked their first two albums. Played a lot of their stuff in cover band days.
The bass parts were always fun to play. A little different and jazzy for that period of pop.

They sure started off strong, but fizzled fast in the song writing department.

I love their first couple albums, but from Seven & the Ragged Tiger on, they kinda lost me.

John Taylor is awesome! He was an influence on me. I think one of the first bass lines I tried to learn was his line in "New Religion" off the Rio album.

I don't think I've ever heard him flub a bass line in any live performances I've seen on video. I think my fave one of his is "Hold Back the Rain"...
