Tube vs Solid State is much debated among Bassists-
I'm just curious if any famous guitarists use S/S-
Greg Ginn from BLACK FLAG is the only one I can come up with- |

off the top of my head,
Andy Summers
Robert Fripp
Adrian Belew
The Cure

| | | | idk but i'm +1"ing" for the jazz chorus. i hear it's one of the best solid state guitar amps there are cause of the crystal clear cleans. that's definatly the first thing that came to my mind when thinking of SS.. i hope to pick one up some day as i'm a half a$$ed guitarist as well as a bass player.
oh and just to add a bit to the people that use the JC, i'm pretty sure james hetfeild used one around the master of puppets era. and also michael gira did after he went solo.

I'd say every one of them at some point in time.
If we are talking about older cats of course.
I'm a teen of the 80's, and tubes were pretty much on their way out at that time, at least over here. Mainly because the reliable supplies were drying out, factories closed (not that they could produce quality tubes anymore with the very well served but worn out machinery), and the general tone demand was the versatility of SS, and the weight of the tube rigs was more than they were willing to haul.
Then came the era of tube nostalgia, and there's no end in sight .
Save the few SWR's, I've been playing tube amps from the late 80's.
Regards
Sam |

Most amps that I've owned have been SS... can't afford tube amps; however, I have played through a few tube amps and there is a distinct difference between them and SS amps, primarily in the way they respond to your playing. A SS amp can sound good, but- depending upon your style- a tube amp can sound better.
