Hi all!

This isn't exactly bass-specific, so I think this is the best place to talk about them.

I think the vocals can come off as cheesy, but the instrumentation is really cool I think!

I've only heard the song Hocus Pocus...

Great song, though. I used to like blasting that in my car while driving around really fast.

I remember this being in the UK charts in 1973 - about 35 years old now!!

My college roommate had a copy of their live album that I recall being pretty cool. Jan Akkerman is a seriously underrated guitarist, that guy could play!

Absolutely! Their first few albums in the early 70s were great. Very sophisticated, beautiful European (i.e. classically influenced) progressive rock.

I actually had the privilege of meeting Thijs van Leer in 2004, when the recently-reconstituted Focus played the ProgDay festival in North Carolina:

ProgDay

Very friendly fellow...who seemed genuinely surprised and delighted by the overwhelmingly positive response from the audience - some of whom were mere toddlers or even not yet born when Focus enjoyed its initial success years ago.
