Besides GC and Daddy's Junky Music? It's nice to avoid sales tax.

I bought my second bass ever at Hanover Strings in Hanover, NH. The people were very nice and the shop, while small, had a good selection. Hanover's also very pretty, so while its a bit of a hike from Massachusetts, you could maybe make a day-trip or weekend out of it.

Last time I was there, they had a couple of Rickenbackers, including a fretless one, but that was almost 10 years ago...

What's the criterion for "good?" Selection, prices, service? I live near Dover, there's Earcraft Music and Ralph's House of Tone there, both right downtown. Ralph's is smaller and more personable, a lot of musicians I talk to seem to prefer it but there's not a whole lot of selection. Earcraft is bigger and the guys there are pretty knowledgeable and helpful, so that's where I usually do most of my poking around. There are also some boutique shops around, like Mike's (or is it Mark's?) Guitar Loft, it's in Nottingham or Barrington, more of an appointment-only place.

I don't know how far you want to travel, but http://www.northernlightsmusic.com/ Northern Lights Music in Littleton NH has a good selection...they have some nice vintage bass guitars there also.

Any place that carries a good selection of Fenders, and some decent amp brands.

I know you said "besides Daddy's", but the Daddy's in Nashua has always done right by me.

I've been to that one. Not knocking it... just not the best selection of new equip.

Don't even need to comment about GC.
