Any Guild guitar experts out there?

I have a 1967 Guild Starfire IV with a Guild Bigsby-style tremolo bridge. I tried doing research and looked through Guild forums and it doesn't seem like that was on option for that model. Just curious if I'm missing something or have something special.

Bigsby terms were an option on the SF IV from the start pretty much. Not rare at all. Go to "Let's Talk Guild" and ask.

COOL!!! I'm just over a bit west in Central Illinois, and the snow's cleared enough for FedEx to get here. Send it to moi, and I'll check it over for you. Make sure the electronics are working well, the neck is adjusted correctly, set the intonation, clean it up, and give it a thorough testing. Might take a few years to do it right, but it'll be worth it

I'll compare it with my 2001 Starfire IV, in the middle of this photo

Hi.

I don't know the answer to Your question, except to say that JTE's answer makes perfect sense, but how come the strings are strung over the roller bar, not under?

I have had only one arch-top with a "bigsby", and on that guitar the angle over the saddles wasn't enough unless the strings were under the roller bar.

The only real bigsby (Gibson stamped actually ) equipped guitar I have is a SG, so stringing like that is necessary there to keep the strings from popping off the saddles.

Regards
Sam

Bigsby made the rollers different, depending on how high the bridge sat. On the SG it has to go under to get enough angle due to the very shallow bridge set. On most semi-hollow and full hollow bodies, it can sit higher because the bridge sits higher.

But looking at the OP's photo, it does look like that one is made to have the strings go UNDER the roller bar to get the downward pressure. It's a bigger PIA to string it that way, which is probably why it was done, but the guitar and the Bigsby will work better if it's strung correctly.

That's a question I'll have to ask my guitarist (the dude pictured). I just let him use it but stick to the low end of things, personally.
