Question Any guitar forum as cool as TB?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm new, and really digging TalkBass. I have several good friends who play guitar -occupational hazard of playing bass I guess - and I'm wondering about guitar forums. What's out there for guitar players. I understand we're not to rag on other forums, any impressions of guitar forums would be appreciated.

I use Ultimate-Guitar. But only in moderation, for there are idiots a plenty over there.

It's a much smaller site, but I use the Seymour Duncan forum for all my guitar needs. Fellow TBer The Golden Boy is another posting regular.

http://seymourduncan.com/forum/

The only problem with that site is alot of people there are musically limited. Tons of metalheads, some classic rock guys, some blues guys, and thats about it.

Isn't it against the rules to talk about other forums?

It's against the rules to talk badly about them.

I found that Guitarists.net is pretty good for finding out about guitars

I checked out U-G for a few minutes and was amazed at how many comments were arrogant and condescending, even when some decent information was being shared. I don't know where the line is between ragging on another forum and sharing my reaction to the comments people were making on it, so I'll be nice and stop now. Makes me appreciate the respectful tone at TB even more .

I'll also probably check in over there occasionally for entertainment.

ultimate guitar is deffinetly not as cool as tb, i mean look at this "3/4 is 3 crotchets in a bar, 2/4 is two crotchets in a bar, 6/8 is 6 quavers in a bar. best thing to think is the first number is how many and the second is what type they are i.e. 2-minim 4-crotchet 8-quaver 16- semiquaver..."

that might make sense to someone, but not me

The problem inherent in trying to find a guitar forum with the attitude of talkbass is that it doesn't really exist. The attitude of the majority of guitarists is way different from bassists so unless there was an elitist forum that had a screening process then you are going to find a lot of condescending idiots on guitar forums.

When a forum's subject is about guitars, it makes them less cool than TB.

Two of my favorites are the Seymour Duncan Forums and The Gear Page. I also like the Plexi Palace page- but there's not a lot of traffic there (which can be both good and bad).

It's a really cool thing when you can find forums where you can both contribute AND learn- not to mention goof off and shoot the breeze with people.

Don't be a jerk, don't be high handed or condescending, get a feel for the people and the place. I don't always succeed, but you "meet" a lot of great people along the way.

Like I said, it has to be in moderation. There are many intelligent posters who will help you out, but there are many idiots who screw around. Plus the mods are much more tolerant of stupidity there, which means lame teenagers who like to cause a ruckus can. If you're willing to wade through the crap then it's not half bad.

I'm MetalUpTheAss, nto sure if I've seen you there. I mostly post in the Bass & Electric Guitar forum, as well as GB&C

The bass forum on UG is actually the coolest part of that site (IMO), a lotta cool chill people there. And a good number of TB'ers lol.

The best guitar forum out there is the Fender Forum. It's not just for Fender players, but most of the guys on there are really nice, upstanding, and professional-minded people. It's $35 to join (after a 3 month trial), so that weeds out a lot of the idiots. DEFINITELY worth it. I've gotten so much out of that forum over the last few years and I recommend it very, very highly.

Bassdogs.com is not to bad. But TB is the cream of the crop in my opinion.
