Anyone have any experience with Lap Steel? Are there any good affordable entry level Lap Steel guitars you could recommend?

| | | | Ten to twenty years ago they were ALL affordable. No one wanted them. Just look on ebay for lap steel, and sort the search so you look at the cheaper ones. Those will probably be the newer ones and you will see the brand names. I think even Fender makes a new model or two. |

I was hoping someone has had some hands-on experience with a particular model. Also, I know there's lots of stuff on ebay but I avoid them. I would much rather deal locally with stores and Craigslist.

George | You know, you can browse ebay without buying. I simply mentioned it so you could see a bunch of lap steels. I seriously doubt you're going to find a good selection of lap steels on Craigslist.
My advice is to find a vintage one, although most are bringing $200 plus, and some, like Fenders and Rics, a lot more than that.
Old Harmony, Kay, Supro, Magnatone, Airline, Silvertone, and other brands can be had for probably not a lot more than a new (soul-less, no mojo) lap steel. That's what I would do, get an old one.

Fortunately, I live in a large metropolitan area with a lot of players and music stores with used equipment. I appreciate the brand suggestions, Thanks again.

Here's a quick GBase search: Lap Steels

My fav was Emmons, followed by Sho-Bud with. Sho-Bud made some beatiful burdseye pedal steels.

| | | | I was thinking more of "Lap Steel" as in what Jerry Douglas plays in Alison Krausse's Union Station. He plays Lap Steel guitar on a "Resonator" square neck guitar.
