Any new music or bands suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been trying to find some new music to listen to. I have bought some new cds but was very disappointed once I listened. My favorite style is metal but I also enjoy punk, jazz, blues as long as it is good I will listen to it. What I am listening to right now is Dillinger escape plan, Clutch, Slayer, Red hot Chili peppers, mastodon. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Just listened to so come on and shitkicker. They sound like they would be a great band to see live in a small venue.

Their album Boxriff has some studio songs, but the rest is done live. They sound very good live. I can easily hear the bass in their life stuff, it is amazing how it is mixed, if I didn't know I would think it was done in the studio. Including nice uses of an envelope filter.

Try out some post rock. Mogwai is a good band to start out with. If you like that let me know because I have a lot more where that came from.

Young Widows.
Sweet Cobra.
Breather Resist.
Kodan Armada.
Lords.
Daughters.
Russian Circles.
Red Sparowes.
These Arms Are Snakes.
Botch.

All of that spans from original Mathcore (Botch), to old school Louisville/Chicago sound (Kodan Armada), to new school Louisville/Chicago sound (Young Widows, Russian Circles) to west coast Post-Hardcore (These Arms Are Snakes).

metal im listening to a lot as of late: between the burried and me, and avenged sevenfold. nothing new really, but excellent.

another band thats been around but that i discovered a couple days ago is infected mushroom. their album vicious delicious is awesome. i think i snagged it before coachella 2007, because i know they were there, but i just listened to it recently, even though its been on my hdd for over two years. that happens a lot. theyre psychotrance, which seems like trance with rock, and hip hop, and generally just awesome craziness. hot chip is also friggin amazing, as is free blood (its one of the singers of !!!, with the bassist of hot chip, and i think hot chip produces them). their first ep is great, as is the second. heres a link:

Bands that do similar things:

Explosions In The Sky.
Mono.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
Saxon Shore.
Russian Cirlces (sort of, more metal).
Red Sparowes (ditto).
Sigur Ros.

And of course I stand by all of my above recommendations to anyone willing to listen.

Besides Godspeed..., I actually like the band This Will Destroy You more than many of the other instrumental post hardcore/rock stuff. There's also Pelican, Of Sinking Ships, and Sparrows Swarm and Sing.

Along the same lines, but with more vocals, check out Isis, Mare, Jesu, The Mouth Of The Architect, and the gran' daddy of them all (and one of my top three favorite bands ever) Neurosis.

And SnakeAnthony... how ya gonna drop Louisville like that and not mention Colliseum, Brain Banger (Nick's band that i was digging WAY more than Young Widows before Old Skin came out), Black Cross or National Accrobat ?

And also to add to that previous list, Coalesce. I'm still digging their new CD, "OX". I would also throw Converge in there as well as Training For Utopia(way underrated and awesome if you can look past the fact they were on SolidState).

Well, addressing Coliseum, I tend to leave them out of the Louisville scene. They certainly don't appear to be. Shows at home are almost nonexistent, and they've always acted big for their britches. After hanging out with the Breather and Kodan guys, even bands like Frontier(s) and Black Cross, Coliseum just seems out of place on a personal level. I like their music, but that's about as far as it goes.

But Brain Banger, Black Cross, and National Accrobat, however, are some cool guys that make cool music.

BTW, Coalesce is an awesome group of dudes. One of the more satisfying shows I've played.

I couldn't agree more. My old band played with them years ago before the hiatus. Awesome show. Awesome dudes. Awesome time!

Speaking of awesome dudes and in the nature of a good bro-down name-drop: a couple other bands that gets mentioned in the same heavy music circle that were awesome and super nice dudes were Suicide File and Achilles(who are playing again, which is AWESOME).

As for Colliseum... Man, i'm sorry to hear that they don't *chuckle* coalesce with their hometown very well. Any time i've ever played with them they were really nice. But my band was way more on the crust end of the spectrum and those shows reflected that and i guess they were more comfortable with that. They were a tad preachy, but that was all but par for the course of that specific show... learned a lot about Social Security that night at least
