Any New Order fans on here?

Is anyone on here a big fan of the band New Order? I've found most people on here have never heard of them and yet they are possibly one of the most influential British bands ever! Good basslines too...........................

Absolutely awesome grooves! 'throbbing' basslines totally drive the music.

I like them, but if I ever hear Blue Monday in a social situation again I'll probably snap and kill someone. I like True Faith though.

There's a reason that Peter Hook says he absolutely hates this song. He says that after 25+ years of music, people ALWAYS request this at concerts/his DJ sets and he hates it. He usually refers to it as Blue ****ing Monday.

I like them, I really enjoy Peter hooks lead bass playing its not over the top and he makes the bass "sing". Regret is my favorite New order song.

I saw them play a secret gig in late 1980,* which was just after the death of Ian Curtis and one of their first as New Order!

It was in a small basement venue which was part of the Brighton Art College and there was no stage - I was standing a few inches in front of Peter Hook and the sound was phenomenal - tremendous intensity!

They played mostly Joy Division stuff - long before programmed keyboards and it was one of the best gigs I've been to!

* EDIT - just realised this was probably before you were born!!

yeah i'm a huge New Order fan... well, up until Republic anyway.. don't think much of their stuff after that... for me their best period was in between 'Brotherhood' and the single 'World In Motion'... they didn't put a foot wrong

I was way into them (and Joy Division) back in the '80s. I don't listen to them as much now, but I still appreciate them.

I heard Peter Hook doing a DJ set at the club I used to work in and he played loads of New Order/Joy Division stuff- Love Will Tear Us Apart arranged for string quartet? Very strange.

Hooky

peter Hook is one of the most inovative bass players ever.

In my book he's up there with Jaco, Entwistle, Jamerson & Stanley Clarke. Not in ability, but inovation.

He's certainly one of my favourites. Before I heard some stuff by him, I thought I'd always play fingerstyle through a clean signal. And I never thought I'd take interest in a Yamaha, or a Gibson ES-335 style bass. But there you go. And I know if I'm ever going to get a chorus pedal, it's gonna be the same pedal he uses.
