Any REAL christian punk bands?

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, so you have the "punk" christian bands (relient K, mxpx, etc.)

But are there any that actually display some sense of true punk? Any that dont have cheesy lyrics?

Im trying to find some...

....put this in the right forum right??

LITTLE RED FLAG GOING UP HERE

My guess is that since *religious* content/subject matter is liable to come up in this conversation, it might survive longer in the lobby.

So real in the sense that they aren't fictitious?

Or they are a real punk band?

Or they are real Christians?

I dunno, Slick Shoes maybe? Kinda cheesy, but super fun at times too.

I always liked this song...

I dunno, you gotta have some serious street cred to be a REAL Christian punk. I mean don't you have to kill a hesher to earn the right to wear that badge?

i think most heavy christian music is more in the metalcore genre these days than punk. i'm actually jewish but anybody who's a fan of relentless yet melodic heavy music can appreciate bands like Becoming The Archetype and Destroy The Runner.

I never got why MxPx was classified as a Christian punk band...I understand they are Christian and play pop-punk, but I've never heard any of their songs that seem to have overtly Christian lyrics.

This is what I wondered. The only MxPx song I've heard (I won't look further, pop punk isn't my thing) is "Chick Magnet." And I didn't hear anything about Jesus or salvation or anything remotely religious.

I would also like to see more Christian punk bands that stray from the pop punk sound or at least have more introspective lyrics.

MxPx is classified as a Christian band mostly because of their affiliation with Tooth and Nail Records and the fact that they're all Christian and their lyrics don't contradict their beliefs. Personally, I think the whole "Christian ____" genre name gets way overused. You don't see bands often get called Buddhist Jazz or Muslim Metal, but Christian _____ gets used a lot. While it is nice to know there's bands out there that are influenced by their religious preference, I don't think genre labeling is necessary.

while not really necessary, very useful for Christians that want to listen to wholesome music.

MxPx and Dogwood are classic, The Wedding is fairly pop-punk but still awesome. The best classic punk with a Christian message I've heard in a long time actually comes from a really new band on Tooth & Nail called Children 18:3, check them out!
