72 tele custom--my all time favorite tele

If I ever get in a band as a guitar player, my arsenal would be my SG and this beauty!

Here's one I built from parts. The neck is an OLD MightyMite.

I "sorta" have a tele. Actually it looks almost exactly like superbassman's fav. Its black just like that but its a tele deluxe, not a custom. It has 4 knobs and 2 humbuckers instead of one. It also has the CBS big headstock. I also have a vintage white SG, so thats my fav lineup for guitars also. I say its not really a tele cuz all thats tele like about it is the body shape. Id like to own a real tele someday but my clean channel is really just the least broken up of the 4 channels i use so single coils dont do me much good at this point in my life.

I finally got my first USA Fender Telecaster about 2 1/2 months ago. Everyone that owns electrics needs at least one Telly in his/her arsenal along with various basses.

Right here

Not a real tele, was just a cheap copy. But, it plays excellently, and it sounds great! Before i bought it, i had a pickup swap lined up. This is over a year down the line now, the pickups in that beast needed no swapping! (althought, i have been wanting to change the pickguard now)

Is that an original or a reissue?

That is definitely a telecaster, a wicked cool sounding one at that. Any pics? Those are what Squire is making now with the two humbuckers. I played one and it was pretty bad but it's a great concept and I've played some parts teles like that that were awesome.

Ill get some up tonight if i remeber. Actually I was a pretty big fender hater, and I still dont really like single coils. This year I bought that guitar and a Fender prosonic, which is like fenders version of a les paul into a mesa boogie. Its fender but it sure doesnt sound like it.

I myself have gone through two telecasters both of which i regret getting rid of.
My highway one:

Didn't like the way it felt, but it was cool. Upgraded with Texas specials and brass barrels.

My favorite one was a MIJ early 90's natural ash telecaster is was a great playing instrument, really heavy finish tho.

My #2 is a early/mid 90s MIJ Tele- I sanded it down and did a Krylon refin. Pickups are Harmonic Designs- S-90 in the bridge and V+ in the neck. Bridge saddles are Graph Tech compensated. I've always hated the typical Tele switch and wiring scheme, so I wired a toggle switch going up/down. It's got separate volumes for each pickup and added the tone for the neck pickup in the center.

I had a Tele Custom- it was either a 72 or 74- and it was the most colossal piece of crap I've ever owned. It was my first "real" electric guitar- and I hated it. The neck pocket was so bad, if you strummed somewhat vigorously it would shift out of tune. Then you'd have to slap upwards on it while holding the body down and knock it back in tune. Utterly embarrassing.

I wont link unless anyone is interested (in which case PM me).

The guitarist in my band has used a LP for ages and has had a Squier tele which was his first guitar. It never got used much because it sounded a bit crappy. I pointed him in the direction of a guy who does hand wound pickups at a great price. He got one of the guys standard pickups, which is a tele bridge pickup, which is coil tap-able. Standard tele + P90 style single coil sound. Great on a tele if you want something other than the twang

I play a Tele, though I'm not much of a guitarist. A nice Korean Fender Tele, ash and maple. Really great guitar.

Nice abalone inlays...

And sweet grain.

That's lovely.

Mohawk, I'm pretty sold on P90's in general so I have though about a couple p90's rather than single coils, not like a custom though. I don't know yet. i do love p90s. I have an older epiphone korean les paul special that is a sweet little guitar with tight p90 growl and snap.

I built a 1964 telecaster a few years ago. I worked with a ton of different vendors, but the body and neck came from USACG. And Tommy did a ton of custom spec work on it. I believe I was also the first 'clay dots' neck they built. The project was to build a 1964 Telecaster to stock spec. The only differences in mine are the bridge plate (doesn't have the pat. numbers) and the Logo isn't right for the years. These things I chose so it couldn't be stolen and sold as an original.

3lb swamp ash body

How many parts does it take?
(check out the sweet Brazilian RW board/w clay dots!

Some finish details. Nitro sprayed by Mark Jenny, who does restoration work and also worn by him and 'aged' clear coat to match several 64's in ice blue that I've played.

I'm going to sell my Strat to get a Tele. I'm looking at the 69 reissue thinline. I'm going to put stacked humbuckers in it though with 7-way switching. I played a few Teles at Wild West Guitars today. There was also a Baker Tele that was amazing. I want a Gretsch and a Tele so I'm torn a little right now.
