Anybody name their bass ?

So my entire life thus far, if i ever got attached to something part of my greatest interest's i would tend to name said items.
And ever since i became a Bassist/musician 8 years ago ive always named my instruments.
They all became in a way "my friends".
I'm no psychopath but they all hold a special place in my heart since music is so special to me.

big question though: if you name your bass, what are they named and why?

Heres Mine:

Fender MIM Jazz = Claire
Ibanez JTK = The King
Status Washburn series 1000 = Ginger
Univox Special = Anna
Fender Custom Jazz = Maggie

pictures are encouraged! :D

My one and only bass is a Yamaha RBX 170 and her name is Jessica Nina. I've planned on naming all of my basses after hot girls I meet. THAT IS THE PLAN!

Munjibunga 03-02-2013 03:04 AM

I give 'em names like "the Yamaha" and "the UV70."

CauliColin 03-02-2013 03:58 AM

My 2 basses have names.
Warwick Streamer Standard = The Bass
Squier VM fretless Jazz = The Fretless

Mine is called Igor, or the henchman. I'm plotting the purchase of a second bass and I must say I'm excited for its name to come out.

I don't. I mean, I see and can appreciate where you're coming from.

I have a Squier P-Bass and an Ibanez SR370F (fretless) both 4-stringers.

Hah yep. This isn't the first thread of its kind, but I'll bite again. My black one is called Rhea and my red one is Brie, and my guitar is Annabel. I don't really think about why, I just attach names based on perceived fit.

Sorry to hi-jack, but what is the Streamline like? I'm contemplating a fretless one, and I am curious about the ergonomics and the graphite neck.

The only bass that I have a (potential) name for isn't fully built yet. It's a Stingray clone which is already stripped down and will soon be refinished in a glossy translucent honey-yellow. Partially due to the color and partially due to the growl it will end up with I thought I might call it the Honey Badger and give it a custom decal to match.

Why do you name them all girls names?

Why not a Rufus, or maybe a Christopher...or Rochester?

FatherG 03-02-2013 12:58 PM

My Dillion Fakenbacker says Thumpinbacker on the truss rod cover. I have yet to name my Warwick Corvette or Danelectro Longhorn.

I consider Igor to be masculine, I wouldn't to hang out with a girl as much as I hang out with my bass. Most guys seem to have the same kind of mindset.

Auguste 03-02-2013 07:33 PM

I would say because if you're a male bass player, you'd rather be holding and playing something generally of the opposite gender if that is your preference. Would have sounded a little strange to hear BB King caressing "Larry" instead of "Lucille".

That being said, I have named a few of my basses, not all- "Toby" is my Tobias Toby. "Iba" is my Ibanez, "Hohny" is my Hohner headless- not very creative I'm afraid.

Do you want to two-finger a boy's name? (Not that there is anything wrong with it, just most men would prefer a girl) I personally wouldn't

I don't name my basses, but Carin let me engrave the truss cover so my LB76 is called "The F Clef"

mrjim123 03-03-2013 10:15 AM

The only bass I ever name was my Ripper, which I named Jack - Jack, The Ripper.

Kmonk 03-03-2013 10:23 AM

The only things I've named are my son and my dog. My basses are called, Jazz, Precision, Alembic, Spector .
