| | <-- That guy looks like me, but old. | | Join Date: Aug 2002 Location: Arlington TX | | | We were almost famous for a while. And then we weren't anymore. And now we're pretty forgotten. When I encounter someone who remembers my old band it's a major event for me.
The local college radio station was playing a tune I recognized as belonging to a group that we did gigs with back in the late '80's and early '90's.( Old Eyes by Ten Hands) I called in because I was amused to hear these guys on the radio again. The DJ mentioned how he used to see them at Club Clearview and Club Dada back in the day. So I said "If you were around back then, do you remember any of the other groups from around there?" He did. He mentioned another group that I also liked and had been friends with. And then he mentioned Fuzzy Logic. I said "You remember Fuzzy Logic?" And he said "Oh yeah. Those guys were awesome. I wonder what ever happened to those guys. " I said "Well, one of them is talking to you on the phone right now." He asked what I played. I answered. And he said "This is Wayne?" This was more than ten years after our last gig as a complete group.
That was probably the most I have ever felt like a rock star without actually being on stage at the time.

| | | | My dad was the bass player for Totty but he doesn't post.
They played with bands like Grand Funk Railroad, ZZ Top, and The Talking Heads. They got played on the radio quite a bit in L.A. in the 70's and can sometimes still be heard on KATT radio in OKC. |

Ask me again in two years, though...
Haha... funny story time... last night, I had to work, but the other guys in my current band were hanging out at a friend's house, and he had a raffle spinning/fortune telling device. Like a combination between a hand-cranked lotto ball machine and magic 8 ball, but with lots more answers available. They started asking it questions about me, since I wasn't there, and one of the questions they asked was "Is Jimb going to be a rockstar" and the answer ball that came out said "Next Year."
so according to the magic spinny ball thingie, I'm going to be a rockstar next year!

My former band, Rico Monaco & Sol Sons has the full CD I recorded with them there, as well as one of the tracks on the following "EP" with me on it (live recording of us playing "Oye Como Va" in Paris with Tito Puente Jr.).
Also, I was Tito Jr.'s touring bassist for a while (maybe that counts?), and I played ONE song with Sammy Hagar at his club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico ("Black & Blue", from his Van Halen stint).
Now, I'm just a schmo working at a bass guitar builder ( ), not even gigging ( ).

I still think Dallas suffers from a stigma of sorts with a lot of the labels IMHO.
The New Bo's meltdown, the utter failure of the Buck Pets, the nitch of the Rev never really catching on, mostly a land of one hit wonders...I have heard those things brought up several times (back in the late 80's to early 90's anyhow).
I knew several people who got caught up in that Sounds of Deep Ellum scramble of sorts, one of them used to joke that record was the kiss of death.
All it takes is that one person from a label that wants you, and woe to you if you don't give an instant return for the investment.
Mean biz, glad I was never good enough to play in a real band and deal with it.
You guys that do are much tuffer than me!
