Anyone else get burned out?

Agh, I could not for the life of me buckle down and concentrate on bass tonight. I just couldn't, so I am putting it down until Monday at which point I will hopefully be able to pick it up again. I normally practice a lot and I think I get burned out really easily. Anyone else have this problem?

yea i get that every once in a while. sometimes i'll be more interested in something else entertaining (usually videogames/electronics). and my band's lack of will to do anything doesn't help. plus, it just feels like i'm playing the same old songs over and over again (i guess i am, but it's usually more entertaining). but lately i've found another hobby (and junior year class)- film production. hopefully that'll help me balance my interest between the two.

Play from the heart. If the heart isn't telling you to play you'll never force any music out of yourself but . . . you can still do scales and arpeggios, technique oriented stuff.

yeah, I feel that way every now and then. I think you are on the right path by putting it down and coming back to it in a few days. Sometimes I get bored when I am not learning anything new. Maybe find a fresh lesson or anything that you want to learn that is outside of the norm.

Nothing wrong with putting it down for a couple days, or even a week, and coming back to it fresh. Even the pros do it.

At the moment, I feel like if I never play bass again it will be too soon...... I certainly need a break I think!

The audience simply doesn't know, or care what bass you play. If it feels good, play it!

When i take a little break (during summertime or holidays), it's usually after a show or after watching a music dvd that i take it back again. It gives great motivation.

I get burned out every once in a while too. When I do, I just put down the bass for a while (anywhere from a few hours to a few days) until I feel that urge to pick it up again. A good night's sleep often will take care of it for me.

i do it all the time. most of the time, the time off helps me to play better and appreciate it more.
