I did (one day, Saturday)...
The show was okay - some interesting gear, some not so much. Got to play through an Acoustic 360 once owned by John Paul Jones... scored some free strings... Saw a few clinics - and this insane guitar player Greg Koch - holy cow was he fun...
The show itself was a bit annoying - the booths with the high end gear were seemingly always occupied by young wankers who were slapping loudly and often, with no one stopping them, so just glanced and moved along. Oddly, I didn't see a single bass that I really, really wanted... It seemed to be dominated by less expensive gear, at least to my eye.
I did play a bit with the Roland
VB-99 - - very fun bass synth toy. Don't know how useful it would be (considering it's street price of $1300!) but it was fun.
The concert at the Key Club was a something. I now have a measure of respect for Tal - but she was assisted by having KEITH KARLOCK playing drums for her (Hell, even *I'd* sound good with Keith Karlock!)...
The rest of the show was good, if mixed. The two French bassists that opened the show were clearly very able and played fast as hell, but after a while, 32nd and 64th notes start to blur...
The Mike Watt show, short though it was, was great. He is a hoot - I had no idea! I saw many bassist in the audience getting turned off by his raw/punk thing, but I saw many folks quite digging it (as did I). Not every great player has to be a virtuoso...
The rest was good fun - Verdeen White, Nathan East, Steve Bailey, etc, etc, etc - But the drummers were what really caught my eye - Keith Karlock and then Greg Bissonette - Yow! They ended up playing the whole gang-o-bassists thing until they closed the club up at 1:00 - - So I got my money's worth (show started ~8:30)
Anyone else go/have observations?
