Anyone else nerdy about basses but not really interested in amps?

I think I've always been like this since I started playing, I'd probably have dozens of different basses if I could but I don't think I've ever been really interested in amps, other than the fact that I feel solid state works best for me, anything that's loud enough and sounds good to me is fine with me.

I remember buying my first good amp, all I did was look through a catalogue and pick a combo that had a decent amount of wattage and cost about what I was willing to spend even though it was made by A pretty unknown brand. It's always served me well and I've got lots of compliments on how I sounded with it.

To me, amps are just boxes that "make you loud", I guess and I don't think I'll ever be lusting after a vintage SVT or something. If I could, I'd gladly ditch them completely like a bunch of pros are doing it these days - back in my school days I often used a DI to go "direct" when I was too lazy to lug my amp to school and what came through the PA usually sounded good enough to me. Is anyone else weird like me? I hope there aren't too many of us or they'd have to shut down the Amps forum or something.

I think amps are just as important as the basses. Without them, well, you wouldn't hear too much. And a bad one can make a great bass should like crap. I'm not a total nerd about amps and cabs, but I do look at which ones are reliable, sound great, provide a lot of bottom end, and volume.

You share a physical connection with your bass. Not with your amp. Unless you hump it on stage.

I'm nerdy about basses more than amps, but I'm more nerdy about effects than either of them. I think that it has something to do with the fact that I'm poor and effects are cheaper than basses.

That's my opinion too. I had some pretty nice basses in the past but was never happy with my sound. Perhaps I would have been if I had had a better amp at the time.

I see my amp as a means to an end. Typically I spend more time in the studio than playing live so my amp collection, or my current amp isnt all that impressive. I play a 1000 watt ampeg into a ampeg 6x10 and adore it. I figure ignorance is bliss, and Ive played enough gear to know what I have is pretty good. Next step will be maybe some sort of tube head, but no im not all that enamored with bass amps. Anyway theres cooler stuff to be obsessed with, like mixing boards.

Once I found a solid amp setup, I'm not going to change it up too much. The most I'll do is find an old ampeg b15 for studio work. I don't see myself changing my live rig too much anytime soon. The markbass isn't too crazy, and offers simple EQ options.

Basses on the other hand... I love how different they can sound. And now I'm obsessed with getting lots of good sounds. I have my ray5, my marcus, and my KSD fretless 4. I'm looking to get a good P and a sadowsky before too long. I could never see myself collecting amps like I do basses.
