Anyone ever get that musical brick wall to the face?

Ugh, I hate me.

I recorded another song last week but it will probably never ever be heard by anyone else. It was my second song with vocals and I though it turned out pretty good. The response to my first one was pretty good, I got a lot of positive comments on it even though I though it was sub-par.

But when I listened to the new one again today I could not stand my voice. As it stands I may never try to sing again. It was that terrible. I just have absolutely no tone at all.

Anyone else ever get this?

Yes. This is why I don't sing. I sound like Urkel.

Try it in a different key?
Key makes a world of difference, not just in terms of "I can sing in this key, I can't sing in that key".
But also where in your range a key sits - this one may just be sitting in a sucky part of your range.
Just a thought.

Ah everyone has a bad musical day or two (or hundreds). Walls are there to break down and to make you that much better of a musician. Find what you don't do well with your singing, and practice the living snot of it. You will get better as long as you know you can. Good luck!

Just a wakeup call to work on your singing. Don't worry about it.

Some people just can't sing. I can't sing any better than Mark King, put it that way (which isn't brilliantly!). But I don't let it get me down, I just concentrate on playing bass!

I have a penetrating timbre which in its place singing backups has utility. I hate it but sing backups as required.

Hitting the wall musically is another thing. Recently I have had the good fortune to play with fellas that are much better than I am. They float over the water while I flail trying to remain looking kewl while playing 'hack' lines (at least to my ears). They keep calling me back so I must not be terrible to them, but I can hear the difference. I am practicing more and trying to expand my musical mind.
