Yes, it's been discussed here many times. A search on the title will likely bring up a lot more opinions.

Personally I love it for the biography of Jamerson and his time with the Funk Brothers but primarily for everything it taught me about music.

It's the book that convinced me to start seriously getting back into sightreading and I learn something new every time I learn another of Jamerson's basslines.

It's a great book. Gives a great insight into life on the road and in the studio. Comes with two Cd's which contain contributions both musically and orally, from top bassists. The great thing about the musical tribute IMO is that you can isolate the bass to hear the lines clearer.

A "must have" for bassists.

It's a great book - if you're serious about bass you should get it, irrespective of what music you like. (Also check out the StANDING IN THE SHADOWS DVD - very inspiring and moving documentary).

I agree with Jim that it would be great for a sequel - however it seems unlikely. Later in the year there's a few Jamerson tunes I want to transcribe, so maybe I'll post them (I transcriber YOU'RE MY EVERYTHING earlier this year - very cool bassline!)

OK, you stumbled upon the book...might as well do a 2-fer & go for the DVD, too.

i wonder why that is..the book was a success, and from what i read around here, there are not too many guys that have not been touched by at least some of jamerson's work.after twenty odd years they still print it......the babbitt thing is wishful thinking on my part,no doubt.....

if you ever feel like sharing those transcriptions........i know a cranky old canook who'd love to hear from you
