I've got about 2500 records. Some worth 50p, some worth 500 quid. I've been tempted to dip in and sell the odd piece here and there, but can't quite bring myself to do it.

I don't listen to it much these days, as most music is played digitally, but I have that dream that one day I'll live in that dream house with the detached man-cave, containing pool table, dartboard, 100-inch TV and a vinyl corner, with all my records shelved up so you can just peruse the spines....

I have a friend that plays for a major rock act. When he's at home he's listening to records all the time. He takes photos of the one he's listening and posts it on Facebook. This goes on into the night.

Hey guys, I'm having a strange issue all of a sudden. I'm running an old Panasonic turntable; it has a switch to select the speed - 16, 33, 45, and 78. My mom got me a record for Christmas, and I put it on and noticed it was playing slightly too quickly. It wasn't doing this before, and now all my records are playing slightly too fast. Any ideas? I really appreciate the help.

I assume this is an all-in-one amp/speaker/turntable console? Most of the turntables were manufactured by Garrard, or sometimes Dual, and can be replaced. Often they can also be repaired, if it is worth it to you. The mechanics are usually a simple friction wheel arrangement. The electronics.... I don't know much about, but my understanding is that they're fairly simple, if you are so inclined. If you are not, and it is worth it to you, now might be the time to make friends with your local jukebox/TV repairman. Warning: these are often GREAT places to go vinyl hunting.... you've been warned!

Edit: Many of these have a (fine) speed adjustment at the left rear side of the deck... did you check to see if you inadvertently moved it?

A quick fix in a pinch is to put a dime or a penny (experiment with coins of different weight) on the label close to the center. It should slow it down just enough to correct it.

Thanks guys. It's not a turntable/speakers in one set-up. I'll also look for the fine adjustment, though I don't think it's there. I'm just worried that the motor is going bad or something as it wasn't doing this before. Failing all else, I'll definitely try the change-weight trick.

Thanks a lot guys! It's so amazing to have a place where I can go for help. Whenever something goes wrong, my first thought is always, "Let's ask Talkbass - they'll know!"

Strange coincidence, but I won't pin it on you . I was just wanting to listen to my Doobie Brothers record!

Love vinyl! Digital may look better on paper, but in real life vinyl wins everytime.
