Anyone know how to spin their bass ... ?

Sign in to disble this ad
As the title says: Does anyone know how to spin their bass around their body using the strap?

I really want to learn how to do that, but have no idea how to. I don't want to try to teach myself incase I learn it a bad way and damage my bass badly...

This is not the kind of thing I'd ask my bass teacher how to do

Thanks

if you do it, wear a helmet and use strap locks. Don't have any pins on your strap, stand in your lawn/other grassy or soft area

Expect to clock yourself in the skull at least once, and neck burns from the strap are always fun. I used to do a guitar, in my younger days. Personally, I think you must be daft to do it with a bass, but, er, knock yourself out.

Remember that once it leaves your hands it becomes a 10 lb. swinging club that's 4 feet long. When it whacks you in the head, you'll learn that it's an instrument, not a pendulum.

Yeah man. It just doesn't seem like the best of ideas.

If you're going to do it, think CAREFULLY about where it will go before swinging it. It's long and heavy. You don't want to get hit in the head with it.

2:30 into the song.

The epitome of 80's posing. Just thump on the A string during most of the song, but he could swing that bass like nobody's business. You'd better have some darned good strap locks or have your strap bolted into your bass. Not to mention being tall enough to do it.

ive tossed a guitar but never a bass. i wouldnt spin my bass at a show i just did the guitar for fun but i can give you some tips.

throw it over your left shoulder, head first.
when you decide you want to do it dont wuss out, really toss it
and i lean back a little once you throw it i think it helps it come back to your hands.
and use straplocks

ive seen many bass players spin their basses, i wouldnt just for that one time it might slip and i cant afford to break my bass

Make sure your cable is loose and wont get caught.
Go over the left shoulder.
If you do it, follow through with the throw, you can't change your mind halfway through.
Straplocks or ducttape.

Cinderella invented it. Chad Ginsburg from CKY made it famous in the 90's. Chad does it by grabbing the headstock and pushing it backwards, he can do doubles and triples, but you can't do either with a bass.

IMO, they look dumb as s**t.

Then again, I see to recall when I saw a bassist do it once...in the middle of the bridge of a song, he unplugs, takes two steps forward, keeps playing, unplugged for 5 seconds, and attempts the spin. He cranks himself in the head, and continues to play the song unplugged.

If you are gonna try that, get a bloddy wireless.

Duct tape...not so much.

The video where he succeeds is possibly even lamer then when he fails.

And as to the Cinderella comment earlier, yea they may have invented it, but kids these days do it because they see their favorite emo bands doing.

Anyone have a vid of a person nailing themself in the face or back of the head?
