Bagpipe and drum music? Are you referring to competition-style pipe band music or small ensemble type stuff?

As for full band tunes, I'm fond of most of the popular tunes for March-Strathspey-Reel selections. Standouts are Highland Wedding, The Shephard's Crook, Major David Manson, and several others I've forgotten (haven't played pipes in at least a year). Great aires I like are Mist Covered Mountain and Highland Cathedral.

Oh, my favorite bands are Tulach Ard Pipe Band (though supposedly their drum corps left for Manchester Pipe Band), Oran Mor, Strathclyde Police, Simon Frasier University, and Victoria Police Pipe Band.

I love it!, I was a bass drummer in a local pipeband here.
My favorites were:

Scotland the Brave (of course)
Green Hills of Tyrol
Dark Isle
Atholl Highlanders
Drops of Brandy
Brown Haired Maiden
Drunken Piper
Cock of the North
Braes of Tullymet
Piobaireachd of Donald Dhu
The Ale is Dear

I don't remember the others, it's been quite a few years since I played......but I still love listening to the music

Ach, you just listed the competing piper's nightmare repertoire! :P Even though it is what we get paid for.

My thoughts exactly....our PipeMajor liked to keep us on our toes, especially during competition times

What grade is your band in?

I was in a grade 5 pipe sergeanting (only thing in driving distance), when the pipe major had to leave. After a couple years of horrible incompetence on the part of the replacement (I was like 17 at the time, couldn't very well be pipe major and have peoples' respect even though I was 100x more skilled at pipes than they were . . . just being honest, because these people just didn't have much of a clue), I had to leave. It just wasn't fun anymore, and the new pipe major was such an IDIOT . . .

Oh well, that's my piping story. Did it for a good 6 years. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Might pick them up again some day when I can afford not to dedicate every waking moment to bg and db.

We only made it to Grade 5. We were together from 1996-1999. Our PipeMajor was awesome. Unfortunately the band broke up b/c people started leaving and it snowballed into everyone leaving. Oh well......

I'm right with you though, I wouldn't trade that time for anything. It was incredible to compete and to march during parades. I tried the pipes, but could never get the hang of the whole "circular breathing" thing...so I stayed with the bass drum. I liked that alot anyways, b/c I could act crazy and be the center of attention....he he he, used to piss of the PM something fierce
