just maybe someone knows what i'm talking about. the flaming lips came out with an album a while ago called 'zaireeka.' it's special in the sense that the tracks are split onto four different CD's, meant to be played simultaneously in any combination.

so first you need four CD players, and multiple people, and a way to start it off all at once. my friend has zaireeka on his computer, and we've been thinking about having a kind of 'listening party.' we have both heard it all mixed together, and it isn't that spectacular, but its a bit of a mystery to what its meant to be like. so just wondering if anyone's done it, and if its worth the work of organizing a party and having it turn out to be a flop

Yeah, I own it! But I've never been able to get 4 cd players to play the whole thing in its entirety. A friend and I took all the discs and mixed them together, I like it, a good Flaming Lips album, but Im still waiting to her it the way it was intended. The most we got was 2 CDplayers and a computer...

It's worth it.

It's also worth it to intentionally play them out of time with each other.

Aren't you supposed to have like the EXCACT same amplification and speakers for the players as well?

Nah, while that of course would keep each section at a similar volume/db level, the experiment is really intended to hear those certain types of differences, like the comment about playing the discs slightly out of sync. Its cool to hear the delay of a piece slightly before you hear the original piece that gets delayed.

On my disc I made of the 4 discs compiled together one of the tracks is out of sync, and it actually makes the song more interesting.
