Arcade Fire Are:

Intelligent, original and musically challenging trailblazers who have just produced the best album of 2007 (despite it being only March).

OR

Just plain over-rated.

For those who don't know, I'll try and bring you up to speed: Arcade Fire is an indie/alternative/art rock band from Montreal featuring a male & female lineup, some unusual instrumentation (violins, accordion, hurdy-gurdy, church organ, etc.). I hate making musical comparisons, but think along the lines of Talking Heads played with a lot more intensity and youthful exuberance. They just released their 2nd album, "Neon Bible" this week, and they've been featured recently on Saturday Night Live, the New York Times, New Yorker magazine, etc.

I've only recently gotten into them, but yeah, I think they're pretty great. I don't know the new album well enough (yet), but if you put together a mix of about half of their first album and half of this one, it might be my favorite album of the last few years. "No Cars Go" is absolutely breathtaking, and I love "Intervention" and "Keep The Car Running".

500,000 copies of their last album Funeral sold and their new album Neon Bible was released this week. Artsy Montreal alt band.

David Bowie and Bono love them and have travelled just to see them live. Bono actually opened a Toronto U2 show with an Arcade Fire song playing and him singing along.

I have heard the new album once but loved Funeral.

Definately not for everyone. My wife absolutely loathes them.

They are weird enough that almost every influencial critic out there raves about everything they do. The press kinda reminds me of how they react to the White Stripes.

They're pretty... OK. A tad overrated, but I like the addition of violin. Violin classys up a song quick.
